We are working hard on clean fuels for shipping. This includes hydrogen, methanol and ammonia. But what about the spatial planning and safety when these fuels are bunkered? Does this require the development of new policies? To designate berth AM USA in the Amerikahaven as a location where methanol may be bunkered by a bunker ship, as indicated on the map annexed to this decree.
For bunkering methanol by a bunker ship, it is necessary that the berth, as a location where this can take place based on substantiated external safety calculations, should be designated on the basis of the North Sea Canal Area Regional Port Byelaws 2023.
The data required to be submitted pursuant to the Regional Port Byelaws for the North Sea Canal Area 2023 of the Amsterdam, Beverwijk, Velsen, and Zaanstad municipalities shall be reported in the manner set out in Table 1. Table 1 is included as Appendix I to this Decree.

A groundbreaking Joint Development Agreement (JDA) has been signed to establish the world’s first liquid hydrogen import corridor, connecting the Sultanate of Oman, the Netherlands, and Germany. This corridor will link the port of Duqm in Oman, the port of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and key logistics hubs in Germany, including the port of Duisburg in Germany, enabling the commercial-scale import of renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO) compliant liquid hydrogen to Europe. The agreement was signed during the state visit by His Majesty the Sultan of Oman to the Netherlands.

Port of Amsterdam has achieved its CO₂ reduction target. The Port of Amsterdam aimed to reduce its corporate CO₂ emissions by 65% by 2025 compared to 2014 levels — and this goal has been met. Several initiatives contributed to this achievement: some of our locations are now off natural gas, patrol vessels have been made more sustainable and now run on greener fuels, our travel policy has been revised, company cars are electric, and a new expense reporting system has been introduced, giving us better insight into the CO₂ emissions associated with our travel.
