Exemption, license and reporting for inland shipping

Check if permits, exemptions or reporting are required:

Ban on entering

A ban on entering applies for the following port basins: Mercuriushaven, Coenhaven, Jan van Riebeeckhaven, Westhaven, Amerikahaven, Afrikahaven.

Permission is not required in the following situations:
  • Loading, unloading and waiting for a berth.
  • Bunker ships, service vessels, dredgers and work ships that are working on the port infrastructure.
  • Tow boats and the vessels of boatmen, in as far as they assist an incoming or departing ship.
  • A ship that is employed by a legal public entity or is carrying out work commissioned by an entity governed by public law.

In all other cases, permission is required. Please request permission with this form.

Transport exceptional

For transports exeptional, acquiring permission in advance is required. From whom you need permission depends on where you are sailing:

Transport within the management area of the Central Nautical Management
Transport within the management area of the Central Nautical Management

The Inland shipping police regulations determine whether your transport falls under transport exceptional. Some examples include:

  • ships with protruding parts that may cause damage or hindrance,
  • objects with drag going through the sea lock (seagoing or direction Amsterdam),
  • houseboats of which the transport does not comply with the CVO requirements.

Permission may or may not be required depending on the area.

  • IJ- haven South side quay east of the Jan Schaefer bridge
  • Houthaven north side waiting dock
  • Minervahaven north side waiting dock
  • Mercuriushaven root end waiting dock
  • Sonthaven root end waiting dock
  • Suezhaven poles south side
  • Cacaohaven south side short quays
  • Zanzibarhaven south side waiting poles

In these areas, you can use spud poles and anchors without permission and without notification being required.
