Province launches procedure for wind turbines in port Area

The Province of North Holland is starting the project decision procedure for wind turbines in the port area. The project is currently in the exploration phase. Companies, residents and other stakeholders will be involved in the process. After this phase, the Province will take a project decision that determines whether the wind turbines will be built and under what conditions and regulations.

Splitting VTS Sector in Amsterdam to enhance Waterway Safety

From 30 September, an additional VTS sector will be introduced in Amsterdam: Channel 5, Sector City. The current VHF 4 channel will be split to reduce congestion on the radio channel and to improve nautical safety. Milembe Mateyo, Harbour Master of Amsterdam: “Due to the congestion on the VHF channel, it was sometimes difficult for skippers to make their report.”

Sea cruise ships can now connect to shore power in Amsterdam

Sea cruise ships can now make use of shore power at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA). Thanks to the new installation, vessels can switch off their onboard generators upon docking, significantly reducing emissions and noise pollution. Starting in 2027, the use of shore power at this location will become mandatory—three years ahead of European regulations.
