Aggregates supplier Mibau Stema Nederland B.V. to develop its own terminal in the port of Amsterdam
Mibau Stema Group, a supplier of aggregates for the European construction and infrastructure sector, is developing its own terminal of approximately 5 hectares in the Afrikahaven. The terminal is expected to become operational by the end of Q2 or the beginning of Q3 2026.
Mibau Stema Nederland B.V. (Mibau) has been a long-standing customer in the port of Amsterdam and has operated from a third-party terminal in the Suezhaven until now. From this terminal, high-quality construction materials are distributed throughout the Netherlands by inland shipping and road transport. With the addition of a second, dedicated terminal, Mibau will be able to expand its production capacity. From mid-2026, approximately 2 million tonnes of additional capacity will be available to meet future demand for high-quality construction materials.
Self-unloading sustainable vessels
The new location in the Afrikahaven will feature a completely new quay and a dredged water depth of 13.5 metres. This will allow Mibau Stema’s two newest, future self-unloading vessels to berth without any restrictions. These vessels achieve an approximate 90% reduction in CO₂ emissions related to fuel consumption.
Amsterdam as an import hub
Koen Overtoom, CEO of Port of Amsterdam, commented on the new terminal:
‘We are pleased with the development of Mibau’s own terminal in the Afrikahaven. The decision to invest in a dedicated transhipment facility underlines their commitment to the port and their long-term ambition to use Amsterdam as an import hub. From this terminal, Mibau can serve the market via sea and inland shipping, road and rail. This multimodal approach and strong focus on sustainable operations align well with the working methods and strategy of Port of Amsterdam.’
Mibau Stema announced the news through its own press release.
