From Wednesday, August 20 to Sunday, August 24, Amsterdam will celebrate a triple anniversary of SAIL: 10 editions, 50 years of SAIL, and the 750th anniversary of our capital city. With dozens of Tall Ships and hundreds of vessels from the Sailing Heritage and the Dutch Fleet, SAIL promises to be a spectacular and unifying anniversary edition. Last week, the first ship-to-ship methanol bunkering took place in the port of Amsterdam. At the TMA Logistics terminal in the Amerikahaven, the offshore installation vessel Boreas from Van Oord was supplied with 500 tonnes of green methanol, delivered by the bunker vessel Chicago.

Sea cruise ships can now make use of shore power at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA). Thanks to the new installation, vessels can switch off their onboard generators upon docking, significantly reducing emissions and noise pollution. Starting in 2027, the use of shore power at this location will become mandatory—three years ahead of European regulations.

The layout of the VTS sectors is being revised to further optimize communication between vessel traffic operators and waterway users. This revision includes a reorganization and expansion of the VTS sectors. For example, a new VTS sector will be added on the Afgesloten IJ: Channel 5, Sector Stad.

For the first time, liquefied natural gas (LNG) has been bunkered at the Cruise Port Terminal in Amsterdam. The cruise ship Ilma, owned by The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, was fuelled by FlexFueler 001, Titan Clean Fuels' bunker vessel.
The bunkering was carried out via a ship-to-ship transfer (STS), whereby LNG is pumped directly from one ship to another.
