First LNG bunkering at Passenger Terminal Amsterdam
For the first time, liquefied natural gas (LNG) has been bunkered at the Cruise Port Terminal in Amsterdam. The cruise ship Ilma, owned by The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, was fuelled by FlexFueler 001, Titan Clean Fuels' bunker vessel.
The bunkering was carried out via a ship-to-ship transfer (STS), whereby LNG is pumped directly from one ship to another.
Port of Amsterdam as a Multi Fuel Port
Based on our Clean Shipping Vision, we have the ambition to become a Multi Fuel Port. To achieve this, we are working on developing safety standards that will enable the bunkering of alternative fuels in the Port of Amsterdam. These include hydrogen, ammonia, methanol and also LNG. Bunkering LNG is a cleaner alternative to traditional marine fuels because it produces fewer emissions of particulate matter, NOx and CO2. This bunkering is another step towards cleaner fuels for all types of ships.
