Good news for inland shipping: the planned night-time closure of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal has been revoked. Large vessels and vessels carrying dangerous goods will also continue to be allowed to use the canal during the night.

FNV Havens has called on all union members in the seaports of Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Zeeland to participate in a coordinated strike on Friday, 4 September 2026. The strike is scheduled to take place during the second assignment of the day shift and the first assignment of the evening shift, from 11:15 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Following the departure of Milembe Mateyo as (Deputy) Harbour Master this week, Head of Operations Stuart Kemp will take over her duties and responsibilities until a new (Deputy) Harbour Master has been appointed.

Good news for inland shipping: the option to request an extended berthing duration in the IJhaven has now become a permanent arrangement.

Between 1 July and 31 October, both planned and unplanned closures will occur at multiple locations along the waterways. These will cause disruptions for commercial vessels.
