Good news for inland shipping: the option to request an extended berthing duration in the IJhaven has now become a permanent arrangement.

The South Korean shipping and logistics company is establishing its first European hub in Amsterdam for the import, export and distribution of vehicles. Port of Amsterdam, Hyundai GLOVIS and Koopman Logistics Group signed the agreement on 28 May during a festive ceremony. From 1 January 2027, Hyundai Glovis will take approximately 47 hectares of land into use.

The port of Amsterdam is taking an important step toward a future‑proof inland shipping sector. As of December 1, 2025, mixed mooring is permitted, allowing berths to be used more efficiently and flexibly. This creates additional space, improves traffic flow, and enhances the use of existing infrastructure — a clear win for the industry.
