Possible delays due to tug service strike on 4 September
FNV Havens has called on all union members in the seaports of Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Zeeland to participate in a coordinated strike on Friday, 4 September 2026. The strike is scheduled to take place during the second assignment of the day shift and the first assignment of the evening shift, from 11:15 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Tug service provider Svitzer has indicated that its employees will follow the union’s call and participate in the strike. As a result, tugboat capacity will be reduced during this period. This may lead to delays in vessel handling and could also affect terminal operations.
At this stage, it is unclear what the exact impact will be, as it is not yet known whether terminal operators will also take industrial action.
The handling of vessel traffic will continue to be carried out as safely and efficiently as possible. Safety will never be compromised. However, the strike may affect the smooth flow and predictability of port operations.
