A new report by the World Energy Council the Netherlands (WEC) underpins once again that the North Sea will play a crucial role in the energy transition of North West Europe. The call for clean energy in Europe is increasing, and the North Sea will be crucial in the search for efficient routes that enable the large scale energy transition required to meet the Paris goals.

Port of Amsterdam receives LME certification

Port of Amsterdam was awarded an LME certification this week by the London Metal Exchange (LME). From now on, Amsterdam is listed as a goods delivery point for aluminium, aluminium alloy, lead, nickel, tin and zinc.

Port of Amsterdam and NWB successfully lobbied Platts in order to have this difference eliminated, and Platts has since announced that deliveries in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp axis will no longer be subject to separate rates effective 1 May 2018.

Fourth Feadship yard taking shape in Amsterdam

Feadship has celebrated a major milestone in the construction of its fourth shipyard, located in a prime water-side location in the heart of Amsterdam. In the presence of invited guests, the first concrete was poured into the giant dry dock, part of an impressive feat of engineering involved in building such a facility in a city that is several metres under sea level. When completed at the end of 2018, the yard will also include a giant hall for building new superyachts of up to 160 metres in length along with refits of existing Feadships.

Fourth covered terminal commissioned

VCK Group commissioned its fourth covered cargo terminal in the Suezhaven in Amsterdam today. The All-Weather Terminal 4 has attracted an investment of around € 11 million. The commissioning of the new terminal means that covered transhipment capacity in Amsterdam has risen to between one and a half and two million tonnes.

Plan for Haven-Stad (Port City) at odds with interests of port

The City of Amsterdam’s plan to build 70,000 residential properties in and around the port is at odds with the interests of both the port and the businesses in the port, particularly during the transformation period. Port of Amsterdam has therefore responded to the plan. The public consultation period ended yesterday.
