Expression of Interest RIB Amsterdam
Request for Expressions of Interest (EoI) regional integrated backbone (RIB) for hydrogen transport in the North Sea Canal area.

The reason for EoI for hydrogen
Gasunie and Port of Amsterdam want to jointly develop a regional integrated backbone (RIB) for hydrogen in the North Sea Canal Area (NZKG). To this end, they invite parties in the NZKG to submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) about the future use of hydrogen and the related use of infrastructure.
It concerns the construction of a thirty-kilometer high-pressure pipeline from IJmuiden to the Amsterdam Port Area and a pipeline in the port area itself. Gasunie and Port of Amsterdam intend to link this regional infrastructure to Gasunie's national hydrogen backbone, which is expected to be ready by 2027. In this way we facilitate connections with other industrial regions in the Netherlands and abroad and with hydrogen storage in the Northern Netherlands. This brings the development of a hydrogen economy in the NZKG one step closer.
Feasibility study succesfully completed
The feasibility study into the construction of hydrogen infrastructure in the NZKG was successfully completed at the beginning of 2021. The subsequent assessment phase is scheduled to be completed before the summer of this year. Before starting the project phase, it is important to have sufficient insight into the interest from the market. That is why all parties, and in particular potential launching customers, who want to use the hydrogen pipeline in the future are called upon to submit an EoI.

What we want to achieve with the EoI
The information from the EoI will be used to:
- Enable Gasunie and Port of Amsterdam to define the design parameters for the high-pressure network;
- Consult and involve interested parties in the development of open-access hydrogen transport infrastructure;
- To obtain certainty of sufficient interest in the regional hydrogen infrastructure before investments are made in the next phase of development;
- Provide information to interested parties about the development prospects of the regional hydrogen infrastructure in relation to possible investments in the production or use of hydrogen;
- Coordinate the steps and agreements towards a final investment decision (FID) together with interested parties;
- To further shape the process towards defining the contract structure and conditions in consultation with interested parties.

Documents to be completed by 15 May 2021
Parties can express their interest in the use of a future hydrogen transport pipeline in the region on an individual basis. Interested parties do this before May 15, 2021, by:
- Completing the digital questionnaire.
- Signing the copy that you receive in your mailbox and send it to the contact person below.
- Signing the confidentiality agreement (NDA) and returning it to the contact person below.
