On 14 October 2020, a measuring pontoon was positioned on the north side of the fairway to/from the IJmuiden North Lock, on the south east side of the spare gate for the North Lock. The pontoon, equipped with underwater instruments, will be used for measuring current velocity and water salinity for the purpose of the selective withdrawal (of salt) project which will be realised in the Binnenspuikanaal by mid-2021.
