On 14 October 2020, a measuring pontoon was positioned on the north side of the fairway to/from the IJmuiden North Lock, on the south east side of the spare gate for the North Lock. The pontoon, equipped with underwater instruments, will be used for measuring current velocity and water salinity for the purpose of the selective withdrawal (of salt) project which will be realised in the Binnenspuikanaal by mid-2021.

The Director of the Central Nautical Management North Sea Canal Area announces the following:

An incident, involving an inland ship into which cargo had been transhipped from a seagoing ship in Amsterdam, occurred during the voyage in the beginning of December 2019. The cargo had been treated with a fumigant in a foreign port. The investigation, commissioned by the Director of the Central Nautical Management North Sea Canal Area, showed that the procedures had been carried out in accordance with the action plan adopted on 23 October 2018.
