The effects of the Ukraine war on the Port of Amsterdam
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has had major global consequences. Due to the European sanctions, the war has had both a humanitarian and economic impact. The Port of Amsterdam has trade relations with both countries and fully supports the sanctions.
European sanctions
From 17 April 2022 onward, the Port of Amsterdam has been closed to ships sailing under the Russian flag; a decision made by the European Union. Exceptions to this are, among other things, ships with essential goods such as food, medicines or energy products.
We have created a list of frequently asked questions about the sanctions.
