CleanCapital selects three winners at the Amsterdam Circular Challenge Event on 27 September

Press release
Winnaars circular challenge

It is with great pleasure we announce the three winners of the Amsterdam Circular Challenge Event: Gensos, Antecy en CircularIQ. The jury was impressed by the innovative solutions they offered towards a circular port of Amsterdam. Clean Capital provides the winners free working spaces at Prodock – the innovation hub of the port of Amsterdam, access to their partner network and the start-ups receive support from the experts of the Port of Amsterdam, AEB Amsterdam and Waternet.

The jury, chaired by Jacqueline Cramer, was impressed by the quality of the finalists. Cramer: “It was very exciting to listen to the passionate pitches. The three winners really understand what kind of challenges the port of Amsterdam is facing. They could all start tomorrow.”

Impressive solutions

All 31 applications showed a great number of innovative solutions. One of the winners Gensos, developed a more efficient process turning wet-biomass to biogas. An ideal solution for the port of Amsterdam, as they have plenty of wet-biomass readily available. Clean Capital can upscale this pilot directly into practice.

The start-up that is most promising for the purification of CO2 is Antecy. Showing a solution that transforms polluted CO2 into clean CO2 gasses. It is a great product, which can be added to soft drinks for example. But it is also very useful as raw material for methanol. The jury envisions that Antecy takes care of all the polluted CO2 in the port of Amsterdam area. It is now up to Antecy to prove that their solution really works.

On a different topic CircularIQ developed an online platform to give companies direct access to the data on the sustainability of their supply chain. Also, the emissions of the suppliers are accessible. This transparent tailormade solution makes them the winner of the digital challenge. The jury believes Clean Capital can implement this system right away.

A boost for a circular economy

For the partners of Clean Capital this challenge was a great opportunity to introduce start-ups to their networks. Koen Overtoom, director Port of Amsterdam: “As far as I am concerned, all the winners are going to be part of Prodock as soon as possible. We will do everything to support them in building up their circular future. A challenge like this is certainly something we should do more often!”

International exposure

To reach-out to as many (international) start-ups as possible, Clean Capital has asked Rockstart, and Climate-KIC to guide their challenge. Rockstart has a large network of start-ups in the Amsterdam region. Climate-KIC is the European community for climate innovation, with an accelerator program with over 800 cleantech start-up across Europe.
