Complaints or reports

Do you have a complaint about Port of Amsterdam, any of the companies based in the Port, or about (a) Port of Amsterdam employee(s)?

You can use our online form to report your complaint. After submitting this form, you will receive an email confirmation of your report or complaint, along with a registration number. We will then send you another email informing you how your report or complaint will be handled and/or resolved, and within what time frame. In some cases, we may decide to forward your report or complaint to a third-party organisation – we will advise you of this by email if this is the case.

Urgent complaints regarding operational matters

If you have an urgent complaint regarding an operational matter, such as the use of auxiliary engines or generators aboard vessels or an onsite violation of a mooring ban, you can report this 24 hours a day to the Harbour Master’s Division, Port Office, at the following number: +31(0)20 523 46 00, selecting menu option 2. 

Port of Amsterdam is unable to take measures against disturbance caused by crews and other people aboard moving and stationary vessels, including ship passengers. It has no jurisdiction to do so, as this type of disturbance constitutes a public order issue (i.e. is classified as disorderly conduct). For any complaints about crews and other people aboard ships/passengers at or on the quay, please contact the Public Space Enforcement Department (Handhaving Openbare Ruimte/HOR) for the appropriate Amsterdam borough (stadsdeel) or the law enforcement authorities at 0900 8844 (nationwide number).

Complaints about noise, odour or dust?

If you have a complaint concerning noise pollution, odour pollution or dust pollution, other types of disturbance or inconvenience caused by businesses, or any type of ongoing work(s) in the area, please contact the North Sea Canal Area Environment Agency (Omgevingsdienst Noordzeekanaalgebied), using their Complaints Form.

By phone

You can also submit your report or complaint to us by telephone using the dedicated number for reports and complaints (Meldingen- en Klachtenlijn): +31(0)20 523 46 66. This number is available Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will be transferred to the Complaints Coordinator. If there is no answer, please leave your name and telephone number, speaking clearly, so that the Complaints Coordinator will be able to phone you back.

Handing your complaint or report

If you disagree with how your complaint was handled by Port of Amsterdam, you can contact the Complaints Coordinator to discuss the options available to you. If your complaint relates to public duties (e.g. nautical matters or public space management and maintenance), you can contact the Ombudsman for the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (Ombudsman Metropool Amsterdam). Their office is tasked with reviewing complaints regarding institutions and individuals falling within the remit of the City of Amsterdam.

Port of Amsterdam/the Harbour Master’s Division will process the personal data provided by you for the purpose of handling your complaint and providing feedback on this complaint. The data will be deleted within one year. As a stakeholder, you have the following rights: the right of access, the right to object to your data being processed, the right to have inaccurate data rectified, and the right to have all or a portion of your data deleted.
