The fact that the Vervoerscentrum and the Alfadriehoek are ideally located for last-mile delivery and urban distribution is being confirmed by a growing number of companies. Marqt and Picnic both opened a last-mile hub in the Port of Amsterdam on 1 October 2018. Last-mile delivery refers to the final kilometres of a shipment process.
Marqt has moved into a 2,200 m² building on Gyroscoopweg formerly occupied by Peeters Vervoerscentrale, which has moved to a different location in the Port of Amsterdam. Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL) led the transaction.
Online supermarket Picnic also opened its hub location in the Amsterdam port area on 1 October 2018. Picnic uses electric vehicles to make deliveries in the West district and part of the New West district of Amsterdam from this hub. Picnic already makes deliveries to other districts of the city.
Port of Amsterdam is working on making the Vervoerscentrum a modern and future-proof transportation centre that will be more and more strategically positioned thanks to its location on the A10 motorway and in close proximity to the growing city.
The new locations of Marqt and Picnic contribute towards making the Vervoerscentrum the leading last-mile delivery hub for Amsterdam.
