Good opportunities for biobased economy

The port of Amsterdam region has good opportunities for innovative biobased solutions. Biobased business such as the Simadan Group and Orgaworld, various (bio)chemical companies and the strong position of core economic clusters such as energy, food, agri bulk and recycling are a first-rate base for the development of the biobased economy. Businesses and agricultural activities in the surrounding area have the potential to provide many reusable organic materials and waste flows.

Partnerships in biobased economy

Port of Amsterdam encourages partnerships in bio-economy and actively participates in pilot projects which work on smart ways to transform waste flows into raw materials and energy, often in combination with innovative biotechnology. There is a close cooperation with Innovation Lab Chemistry Amsterdam, a spawning ground for chemical enterprises. Advanced biobased technologies and the expertise in the recycling lead to competitive position en a more sustainable economy.

'We recycle 99.9 percent of the useless waste into useful and sustainable products.'

Chris Linderman, CEO Simadan Group.

Simadan - Chris Linderman

'The companies of the Simadan Group are working together in a smart way to convert organic waste into biodiesel, green energy and biogas. I am proud that we are Europe’s largest ecological industrial complex. We recycle 99.9 percent of the useless waste into useful and sustainable products. The 0.1 percent that we don’t recycle is the waste water. It is sent to our neighbour Orgaworld to be purified. The small solid particles are removed and re-added to the mix used to make biogas. All the biodiesel we produce is transported by ship. This saves a lot of money on road transport. We do everything as sustainably as possible. It’s not only our business; it’s also exciting and useful. The result is that we have as few CO2 emissions as possible, while at the same time having the lowest possible storage costs.’
