The Deputy Director Central Nautical Management North Sea Canal area, who is also the State Harbour Master, announces the following:
From 21 October 2019 to 24 January 2020, the boundaries of the existing work area on the north side of the North Sea Canal between kilometre markers 12 and 13 will be adapted due to dredging operations in connection with the construction of a quay at the indented quay section at Hoogtij. The boundaries of the work area are marked by yellow buoys with topmarks A1 in accordance with Annex 7 of the Inland Navigation Police Regulations (BPR). This boundary lies at a distance of approximately 75 metres from the quay of Hoogtij, at a distance of 35 metres from the imaginary line over the north bank of the North Sea Canal.
During this period of time, the work area is closed for navigation. Ships that have to carry out works in this area and ships bound for or leaving CTVrede are exempt from the closure (see drawing).
From 28 October 2019 to 24 January 2020, cutter dredger ‘Rhône’ will carry out dredging operations in the work area. The dredging operations are carried out from Monday to Friday between 06.00 and 20.00 LT. The work area will be dredged from a depth of 6.00 metres below NAP to a depth of 11.75 metres below NAP.
No work will be carried out during fog (visibility 500m or less);
During the dredging operations, ships are requested to pass cutter dredger ‘Rhône’ at a reduced speed and to refrain from causing hindrance through wash or waves;
Cutter dredger ‘Rhône’ shall exhibit the prescribed lights and shapes and will be listening out on the relevant VHF sector channel;
During the dredging operations, on-site traffic control will be provided by a qualified VTS operator on board mv ‘Poseidon’;
'Poseidon’ will keep in touch with the VTS operators of the relevant VHF Sector and with ships underway in that Sector.
‘Poseidon’ will also keep in touch with cutter dredger ‘Rhône’ and with ships bound for and leaving the CTVrede quay.
Dredging operations by cutter dredger ‘Rhône’ will be temporarily suspended when oversized seagoing ships are leaving Amerikahaven. In these cases, cutter dredger ‘Rhône’ will take up position alongside the quay at Hoogtij.
The period required for the dredging operations will be as short a possible or as long as necessary.
Announcement No. 2019/033 will be cancelled on 21 October 2019.
