Reservation and cancellation procedure for public berths/buoys/dolphins

By way of implementation of rules and regulations for reservation and cancellation of public berths/buoys/dolphins, Port of Amsterdam is striving towards optimal use of public nautical infrastructure in the port.

Rules and regulations

In response to the growing demand for use of the public berths/bouys/dolphins in the port of Amsterdam, rules and regulations have been introduced relating to the reservation and cancellation of these pieces of nautical infrastructure. The rules and regulations are detailed in Chapter IIIA of the General Terms and Conditions & List of Rates.

The Working Method is as follows:

  1. Reservations and cancellations will be made by way of 4 standard forms. The forms (which can be downloaded below) to be used are: ‘Provisional Reservation’, ‘Confirmation of Reservation’, ‘Extension of Reservation’ and ‘Cancellation of Reservation’.
  2. A distinction will be made between loading/unloading activities and other activities. In principle, a provisional reservation can only be made for loading/unloading activities.
  3. Reservations for activities other than loading/unloading can only be made as from 60 hours prior to the expected time of arrival (ETA) of a vessel. This must be done by way of the Confirmation of Reservation form.
  4. A provisional reservation must be confirmed not later than 7 x 24 hours prior to the ETA as communicated in the provisional reservation. Should a provisional reservation not be confirmed, the booking will be cancelled automatically. Charges for use of the berth/bouy/dolphin are due for the whole period of the confirmed reservation. Financial consequences apply for the (partial) cancellation of a confirmed booking.
  5. (Partial) Cancellation of a confirmed booking earlier than 7 x 24 hours prior to confirmed ETA will lead to a charge of 50% of the cancelled period of use. (Partial) Cancellation of a confirmed booking later than 7 x 24 hours prior to confirmed ETA will lead to a charge of 100% of the cancelled period of use. Reservations are made based on the IMO number and activity of the vessel entering the port, should either of these change, the booking will cancelled and a new reservation (either provisional or confirmed) must be made.
